We had a lovely visit once again to Sons of the Thames. Thanks so much for another warm welcome- we felt right at home!

LOCATION

Visiting Crews

Based at Linden House, Sons is on one of the based locations on the Tideway. With full use of the University Course on our doorstep we have some of the most challenging and best rowing the Thames has to offer. Walking distance from Chiswick, Ravenscourt Park and Hammersmith there is a huge range of fantastic places to eat as well as loads of transport options.

Linden House offer us free tea and coffee at the weekends and serve food at lunch times over the weekend. Often putting on events, its a great place to be and there is always something happening ... especially on Boat Race Day!

TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT

We have a fully kitted out gym, with everything you need to keep you fit and strong for the sport including rowing and weight lifting equipment. There are three ergometers in the gym, with more extensive range of equipment available for squad training at neighbouring rowing club Latymer School.

The ratio of boats to members is good, giving most the opportunity to go out in everything from a single to an eight, safety permitting. With four new Hudsons two fours/quads and two pairs/doubles we have a range of boats from singles sculls to eights. Recent acquisitions include another Hudson four, and Wintech eight, which, added to the existing Stampflis mean we have competitive race boats available for racing crews across all boat classes.

CLUB SOCIALS

We share Linden House with London Corinthian Sailing Club and are often invited to their many social events including burn's night and summer evening BBQ's. Sons also have their own social crew who organise and suggest several events through out the year including iceskating at Christmas and local games nights. Rowing social night is on a Thursday and there are always a few drinks to be had and a good chat in the bar after training. With our annual Dinner at Christmas and our summer party at the end of the Learn to row course, there is always something going on across the club.

VISITING CREWS AND ROWERS

We love it when people come to visit and do our best to help overseas and visiting UK crews enjoy the Tideway when we can. Sons is an extremely convenient location to boat from, for Tideway Head Races and Regattas, or hire a boat when we have hulls available. If this is something you would like to find out more about, please contact us to arrange your visit in advance by emailing the club.  If you are coming from overseas, it's possible that one of our members will speak your language. We may even be able to supply a cox if needed, although this does depend on the availability of volunteers. For directions, see our contact page.

We also welcome any compatent rowers from outside of London, as long as they hold a British Rowing Licence and are experienced rowers. We understand how fantastic it is to get on the tideway and what a wonderful experience rowing while in the city can be, however the Tideway is a dangerous place and if you're looking to hop in a boat while you're in London, we can only accept those who are already confident in a boat and able to handle themselves as part of the crew.  Please get in touch if you want to visit us at Sons by using out contact page or emailing enquiries@sonsrowing.com

In November 2019 we launched our Red Board Club, offering some tideway refuge for any crews restricted to local time on the water due to weather conditions. If you would like to travel down to west London to take advantage of this arrangement please contact: captain@sonsrowing.com

“The best club to boat from for The Head of The River Races. Great bunch of people. Always very helpful”
